What is COMcheck and REScheck?

COMcheck and REScheck are software applications designed to streamline and simplify the process of demonstrating compliance with energy codes. They may be used by different professionals in the building industry such as builders, designers, and contractors in demonstrating energy code compliance, and create compliance reports for code officials based on project inputs.

COMcheck

The COMcheck software application provides an optional way of demonstrating compliance with energy codes for new commercial or high-rise residential buildings, additions, and alterations.  By inputting building details into its interface, professionals can quickly verify adherence to standards like ASHRAE Standard 90.1,  the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as well as several state-specific codes. COMcheck also simplifies compliance for building officials, plan checkers, and inspectors by allowing them to quickly determine if a building project meets the code.

COMcheck currently has 3 active versions. Read more about each of the version here

REScheck

The REScheck software application is used to demonstrate compliance for residential buildings, including single-family homes and low-rise multifamily projects. Users can enter specific project details, and REScheck will assess them against the residential thermal envelope requirements in relevant energy codes, such as the IECC or state-specific standards. REScheck currently supports 2 methodologies:

  • Total UA Alternative (Section R402.1.5 in 2015/2018 IECC and equivalent)
  • Simulated Performance Alternative (Section R405)

REScheck currently has 2 active versions. Read more about each of the versions here
